Arrowhead SAVE Team Hosts Coffee Event For Veterans
On April 23, 2020, Arrowhead High School’s SAVE team (Survivor Veteran Experiences) hosted their annual coffee and donut event for veterans from 9am-11am.
According to their section on the Arrowhead website, “The SAVE Team interviews veterans from World War II, Korea, and Vietnam as well as Holocaust survivors in an effort to ‘save’ their stories for future generations.”
Food and drinks were served, and consisted of coffee (courtesy of Birch and Banyan), donuts (courtesy of Fox Bros. Piggly Wiggly), as well as pastries, croissants, fruit, and orange juice.
For the past five years, this has been an annual event (except in 2021, when it was canceled due to risks posed by Covid-19).
Daniel Miller says the team had been hoping for a higher turnout at the event, but consider it to be an overall success. There are several veterans that come to various SAVE events and the students have been able to make good connections with them. Miller also says “Whenever SAVE has the chance to give back to veterans in the area, we are excited to do so and enjoyed doing that with our Veteran Coffee Event.”
This event hosted veterans from many different time periods and conflicts, such as World War II and the Vietnam War, which made for lots of insightful conversations and connections to be made.
Miller encourages more Arrowhead students to join the SAVE team: “If students have interest in preserving the stories of veterans and want to help serve veterans in our community…” email him at the following address:
