New Fashion Trends for Fall 2013: Leather, High Boots, and Peplums
The fall 2013 New York Fashion Week showcased styles that will become major trends for this fall. Fashion week ended September 12, 2013, and took place at the Lincoln Center.
A major new trend for any age is tall boots. Most tall boots are dressy with a low heel.
Courtney Shipsrock, a junior at Arrowhead, said, “I think that tall boots look right with the right body. Sometimes they can drown out certain people’s bodies and make them look very short or stubby. I personally would not wear tall boots, but they can look good on certain people.”
Another popular shoe is the combat boot, says Marina Caliendo, a junior at Arrowhead.
Caliendo said, “I think a big trend for this fall will be sweaters, leggings, and combat boots.”
While tall boots and combat boots are in style, Uggs are out of style.
Shipsrock said, “I am very against Uggs. I think they are a very outdated style that had their time. They kind of remind me of the old clogs that everyone used to wear. They are comfy and can be practical, but they show no purpose in style. I will be wearing combat boots or Hunters instead.”
During Fashion Week, many models wore leather in variety of colors. Black and brown leather is in style this fall; however, leather of different colors is going to be a big trend this fall. Avoid wearing leather top from bottom, but chose one piece of your outfit to be leather. Try a leather jacket or trimmed leather leggings this fall.
Caliendo said, “I already have my leather jacket picked out for this fall!”
Just like last fall, sweaters and colored jeans are popular. Sweaters and colored jeans are also a favorite, says Caliendo and Shipsrock.
In the last few seasons, fashion designers have been making over-the-top prints. This season, however, designers are going back to basic prints. Plaid and leopard are back in style for this fall. Skip crazy prints this fall, and wear basic designs.
Another trend for this fall is white. Forget the old saying “you shouldn’t wear white after Labor Day.” Wearing white throughout the fall is acceptable and a 2013 trend.
Megan Gustashaw, a Glamour editor, wrote in “Fall 2013’s Most Wearable Fashion Trends,” “On the runway this season, head-to-toe winter white made one of the strongest impressions.”
Finally, the last trend for this fall is peplum. Peplum is a ruffle attached to the wastiline of a dress, shirt, or jacket. You may have seen a lot of peplum this summer, but now is a major trend for this fall. Dior, Vera Wang, Moshchino, and many more designers have peplum designs.
This fall the major trends will be high boots, leather, plaid, and white clothing. So ditch the old Uggs and crazy prints, and try a new trend.
