Arrowhead Students Celebrate Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day came to be when Chaucer wrote poetry called “Valentines” in the early 14th century. Valentine’s Day celebrates the Saint Valentine, who is traditionally the saint of love and all that has to do with love. Every February 14th, Americans celebrate Valentine’s Day, although it is not actually a federal holiday.
This year, Valentine’s Day is on a Tuesday, February 14th, and many Americans will celebrate the holiday by giving cards, letters, and flowers to their spouses or partners to show their affection.
Kenzie O’Shea, senior at Arrowhead says she has “had the same valentine since freshman year”
“I hint to him sometimes on the gifts I want, such as these cute earrings I found the other day. Since I am still in high school, I can’t get the most expensive gifts, so I usually buy him socks. He spends a good amount of money on me though” O’Shea says.
Elli Kollman, senior at Arrowhead celebrates Valentine’s day by “I spend the day with my boyfriend, and we go out to dinner and he usually gets me roses.”
“This Valentine’s Day, my boyfriend and I have plans to go to Maggiano’s, and then most likely see a movie. I am really looking forward to it” Kollman says.
Megan Dunn, senior at Arrowhead says “I don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day really, my mom just gets me gifts.”
“My favorite gift that she gets me is chocolate, but sometimes she also gets me stuffed animals, so that’s always fun” Dunn says.
“My favorite thing about Valentine’s Day is when I see how happy my friends are when they get gifts from their boyfriends. They always have a smile on their face and it makes me happy to see that” Dunn says.
