Arrowhead Outlast Kettle Moraine
On Friday, September 5th, the reigning back to back Division One State Champion Arrowhead Warhawks played arch rival Kettle Moraine at the Arrowhead High School Football Stadium. Arrowhead defeated Kettle Moraine 28-27. Arrowhead and Kettle Moraine played a very evenly matched game the whole way through.
Kettle Moraine in the first quarter strikes first with a Mitch Pfeifer 32 run for a touchdown to put KM up 6-0. But shortly after Jonathan Duranso, Arrowheads quarterback, passes to wide receiver Nick Bastien.
Duranso said, “I believe we played at about a level four during the whole game. We [should’ve] done a lot more and came out with a lot more energy.” Moments after the second quarter started Andrew Trafton ran for a 64 yard touchdown to put KM up 13-7. But Duranso didn’t give up. With 6 minutes left in the second quarter Duranso completed a 15 yard pass to Sebastian Luksich, which brings Arrowhead up to a 14-13 lead.
The game was a back and forth battle. Kettle Moraine ran the ball back the very next play to but them up 20-14. And they would score again in that quarter to put KM up 27-14. But yet again, Duranso wasn’t done yet. He ran for a 3 yard touchdown to make
the score 27-21. Duranso’s words on the first half: I [think] I could have had better reads with the running game, and I believe that would have helped the team.”
Arrowhead came back with a fourth quarter touchdown to give Arrowhead a 28-27 lead. Arrowhead held off Kettle Moraine the rest of the way.
Duranso word on himself, “I thought things were off during the [whole] game… I did not always make the correct reads, but were looking to improve a ‘ton’ this week.”
With an obvious back and forth battle, Arrowhead holds off a close conference game. With Duranso completing 21 out of 29 passes. With that win, that puts Arrowhead to a 2-1 record. Only loss was to Homestead the week before.
