Swim Team Wins Second Place In State
The state meet for varsity swim was on Saturday, November 16 at 3:00 pm in Madison, Wisconsin, in the University’s Natatorium. The AHS Girls swim and dive team was the WIAA Classic Eight conference champions and came in second in the sectional meet. The team had high hopes for winning the state title.
But the Arrowhead team lost by four points, which gave them the second place title. Junior, Maddie Barta, was one of the eleven swimmers who competed in the state meet.
“I worked really hard, and I am not disappointed with how the results turned out,” Barta says.
Barta said the team couldn’t have worked any harder than they did and she said she was extremely proud of what they accomplished in the pool.
There were nine swimmers who swam and two alternates on the Arrowhead state team. The nine swimmers contributed to sixteen individual races and three relays for the state meet.
Junior, Lindsay Adamski, got first place in the 100 breaststroke. Also, sophomore Megan Doty, got second place in the 100 fly and Barta, who swam the 100 back, got third place.
“We won the 200 medley relay when we were seated second. This was a huge accomplishment for us and it was the first event of the meet so it really got the ball rolling,” says Barta.
The swimmers who participated in this relay were Barta, Adamski, Doty, and freshman, Alyssa Lewandowski.
Barta said that senior Mary Warren stood out the most on the team because of her outstanding performance in the 50 free when she got first place and got a state record.
