Students Participate in the 2/4 Forensics Meet

Last week Saturday, February 4th, students in the Forensics club participated in a Forensics meet in Slinger, Wisconsin.

Forensics is a club at Arrowhead that prioritizes testing communication skills through competitions, or meets, against other students from the area. Students are expected to develop a piece to perform in front of judges in hopes of winning the meet. Forensics is a good club for people who enjoy public speaking, acting, and debating. If students wish to join they need to email the advisor, English teacher Rayen Elmergreen.

Onesti Ekholm, a senior, has been on the Arrowhead Forensics team since her freshmen year. She started, however, in the seventh grade at Lake Country. She originally joined to make a lot of friends but saw a lot of benefits like being more confident.

Ekholm said, “I like the competing and acting aspects of it.”

Senior Zara Agustin-Jardon has also been on the Arrowhead Forensics team since freshman year, participating on the same team Ekholm did in seventh grade as well. Augstin-Jardon really enjoyed being able to talk about personal issues through her pieces in middle school and decided to continue them through middle school.

“During the meets, it’s pretty hectic. But outside of them, at practice, it is very chill.” Agustin-Jardon said.

Last Saturday the Forensics team placed 4th and 5th in the competition. There are different categories for each piece people will present, totaling three major categories, (interpretive, improve, speeches), which can be broken down into smaller categories like poetry and farrago. Agustin-Jardon placed 4th in poetry and Ekholm placed 5th in farrago.

Agustin-Jardon’s piece on illegal immigration was inspired by her own experiences. “I think it was a really unique point of view I could give that nobody really talks about.”

Womanhood of the 21st century was Ekholm’s topic. Ekholm said she, “likes to talk about things she’s experienced before,” and felt her own experiences can help convey the message she is trying to show.
