James Norcross and Lindsey Schmidt

Kate Sprinkman, a Senior at Arrowhead High School works at Sierra Trading Post, located on 2948 Golf Road, Delafield.  This has been her place of work for about a year in order to earn some money during the summer and outside of school.

Sprinkman describes the business as an “outdoorsy Marshalls.”  The business is located right above Marshalls.

Sierra Trading Post is open daily from 9:30 AM to 9:30 PM, except on Sundays, when it is open from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

Sprinkman says that there is no “rush hour” for the business and that it is busy “pretty much all day” and even more during the summer.

“The store is a cheap version of REI,” says Sprinkman.

Sierra Trading Post sells sports attire and outdoors wear. Seasonal attire is always popular; In the fall there is plenty of flannel for Wisconsinites to buy, and in the summer swimming trunks are plentiful. Prices are around the range of $30-$60 for these.

Sprinkman says that the starting pay is “$13 an hour” and says that there are “no raises.”

She primarily works on Saturdays when the track season is active and works two to three days per week during the off season.

“It’s exhausting.”
