AHS Student Health Practicum: Eating For A Healthier Lifestyle

AHS Health Practicum Students are offering a program to clients that are interested in choosing better options for their optimal health, which started on Nov 6 and finishes in December of 2021.

There is a 10 client maximum.

Clients are volunteers that are above the age of 20 and do not reside with any of the students. Clients are recruited by students.

Clients need to complete an intake survey.

With each client, there is a pair of students.

Brenda King emailed the Arrowhead Staff saying,“not a weight loss program” or any type of “diet program”, but a way to support a client in making simple changes regarding their nutrition.

The primary round has been completed. Clients will meet again after Thanksgiving Break. The second is to view how a client can “level up” their plan.

The possible goals suggested are “…reduce eating out and prepare meals at home, incorporate powerhouse ingredients in meal planning, Increase awareness of healthy substitutions when cooking/baking, The Snack Swap  – what are quick and healthy options, and ways to sneak in more vegetables.”

In the end, clients are required to complete an Exit Survey.

The program gives students the opportunity to create and lead a process, develop a trusting relationship, generate resources, and assess results and feedback.

This program has been in effect for the last two years. Each year, King makes “tweaks and adjustments” to the program, but keeps on planning for the next year.
