Teachers Begin College Essay Workshop Virtually

This year, English teachers Terri Carnell, Elizabeth Jorgensen, and Rebecca McCann are offering feedback for current seniors on their college essays.

Information about this workshop can be found on Arrowhead’s website under News and Events. It can also be accessed by clicking here

In order for students to get into the virtual workshop, Carnell, Jorgensen and McCann asked students to join a Google classroom to access the teachers’ Zoom meeting rooms. The class code is rurgwn2.

At the workshop, students get help planning and drafting their college essays, along with getting feedback from multiple teachers and students.

Carnell says, “The College Essay Workshop is an excellent resource for seniors to get help with any part of the writing process. It’s great that they can receive feedback from three different teachers and multiple students at one time.”

The following sessions have already happened:

  • Wednesday, September 8th (from 3:30-5:30 pm)
  • Saturday, September 11th (from 8-10 am)
  • Saturday, September 18th (from 8-10 am)
  • Wednesday, September 29th (from 3:30-5:30 pm)
  • Saturday, October 2nd (from 8-10 am)
  • Wednesday, October 6th (from 3:30-5:30 pm)

These are the upcoming fall 2021 sessions:

  • Saturday, October 16th (from 8-10 am)
  • Wednesday, October 27th (from 3:30-5:30 pm)

Sessions of the College Essay Workshop were also offered over the summer.

Jorgensen says, “Over the summer, we had such good attendance. Ninety nine students signed up to receive assistance on their essays.”

Students have the choice to attend however many they want or need on any of these given dates and times.

Carnell says, “I think the virtual format makes feedback easier because students are more involved when they are all in Zoom as opposed to sitting at a desk waiting for their turn.”
