The iPhone currently has a 16.9% hold in the phone market, while the Windows has a mere 3.9%. However, this data may be misleading because the iPhone launched over three years before the Windows phone. But could the Windows Phone be creeping up on the iPhone in terms of sales?

When the iPhone launched, it began a smart phone revolution, that has lead to over half of all cell-phone sales being smart-phones. When it came on the scene there were already “smart devices” like BlackBerry, Palm, and other PDA’s. However, the iPhone had a simple interface and intuitive controls, like pinch to zoom and slide to unlock. The iPhone has the edge on the Windows Phone in several areas, such as the widest range of services (including almost all those offered on the Windows Phone), and a collection of apps that dwarfs the Windows Phone (9:1.)

Windows phone does just that, allowing you to use all of Microsoft programs such as Word, PowerPoint, and even Excel. Steven Tweedie and Steve Kovach author of 9 Ways the Windows Phone absolutely Crushes the Iphone from Business Insider says , “There are several apps that do the same thing on iPhone. Apple’s solution is to make you pay $10 for each separate app.”

Another option that can get just about the same things as the Office on the Windows phone is the Google Drive.

Windows new Nokia Lumia 1020 has a 41MP camera to capture all of those great moments with the family. Even though Windows phones don’t have the abundant amount of apps that the other competing phones do, they offer Live Tiles.

Steven Tweedie and Steve Kovach say, “It holds its hardware partners to strict requirements to ensure each Windows Phone device will be able to receive the latest software updates, apps, and improvements.”

The iPhone currently has a dominate stronghold in the mobile industry. However, could the iPhone be losing popularity to the Windows Phone? Students at Arrowhead seem to think not, with 12 voting the iPhone as superior and only four voting for the Windows Phone. Many new, more affordable Windows Phones will be flooding the market.
