Will Hard Work Pay Off for Varsity Swimmers?

The Arrowhead Swim Team has not won a state championship since 2010 and Varsity Head Coach Ruth Ann Ahnen and senior, varsity swimmer Mary Warren, say they are planning to change that this year.

With the team’s coach and new seniors this year, the team’s chances for the state title are very high, says Ahnen and Warren.

“Our team is the strongest it’s ever been. It’s the most challenging of all my four years with the team.  The seniors have been very committed this year and the leadership from last year is missed, but we have a lot of strong, determined new freshmen,” says Warren.

Waukesha South has won state for the past three years.  Warren says it will take a lot of focus, hard work, and maturity to beat them.

“State in 2010 was full of excitement, lots of hard work, and had a very complete feeling.  It will take 100% from everyone and a little luck.  The team has done very well this season and it will be a very tight contest for that state title,”  says Ahnen.

Ahnen is feels she has more responsibility for training the girls to reach their goals and the team’s goals.  She says her new job was an easy transition from her last year’s position as the varsity reserve coach.

“I have overall responsibility for the workouts, and the overall decision making for the team,” says Ahnen.

The swim team’s next meet is this Thursday, September 26th and state is coming up soon in November.
