AHS Hawkette Caption Ready to go to State!!!

This year is the fifth year in a row that the AHS Hawkettes will be going to state. They will be performing two dances: Jazz and Hip Hop. The teams you compete against is based on your schools division.

Arrowhead is division one so the Hawkettes will be competing in the division one category.

This past weekend, the Hawkettes came in second place in the regional competition and are now preparing for state, which is held in La Crosse, Wisconsin During the afternoon. It is at a local high school and the competition will begin at 4pm.

AHS Senior Hawkette dancer, Katie Jarchow expressed how excited she was for this week’s competition.

“I am most excited to be able to dance with my team for one last state dance. It is sad to see how fast time has gone. I seems just like yesterday I was dancing as a freshman scared out of my mind,” said Jarchow.

“The state competition is usually judged based on our turns and tricks that we do. It is a also a lot about technique. At the end of the competition, all of the teams gather around to figure out what places they got,” Jarchow said.

Jarchow said she is most nervous for messing up a dance move.

She said, “I am scared that I am going to mess up and it will be my fault. I am in the front row for both of the dances so I feel like everyone will know my little mistakes.”

Jarchow said she is super excited for multiples things during state but the thing she is looking forward to the most is rooming with her teammates.

“Each year is so memorable when it comes to rooming with my teammates. There is so much laughter and happiness that is shared between us,” Jarchow said.

Jarchow said that her favorite part of the dance that she is performing is the ending.

“My favorite part of the dance is the ending of our Jazz dance there is a ripple and I get to see everyone and it is just a happy part of our dance,” she said.

Another member of the Hawkettes team senior, Morgan Roelke, says, “I am most excited to dance, like the actual action of dancing. It always brings me so much joy when the dance starts.”

Roelke said she is most nervous for the challenging turns that she has to do in her Jazz dance..

She said, “I am most nervous for the turns because first of all they are really easy to miss or mess up on and also the turns are what the judges really look at, so if we mess up on them that’s already a few points taken off of that category.”

Roelke said one of her favorite parts is before and after the competition hanging out with her teammates and team bonding.

“My favorite is part is when we stay overnight and make funny memories and my teammates always make the best food,” Roelke said.

Roelke said this year should be better than last year because last year was basically for fun because there was no chance in winning, and this year there is a big chance.
