This year the Arrowhead Warhawks football team is placed at a 3 seed in the 2017 WIAA tournament bracket. Their first game is this Friday at 7:00 pm against Marshall from Milwaukee at Taraska Stadium as they will both be looking to advance to the next round which is one step closer to the state championship November 17 at 4 pm.

Last year, the Warhawks went 5-5 on the season, but were able to sneak into the playoffs as a 6 seed. They ended up playing against Verona who was seeded at 3. Verona defeated the Arrowhead Warhawks in a close game loss 21-17.

This year, Arrowhead went 7-3 on the season while winning their last game by 30 points to make a statement.

Marshall went 7-2 on this season, similar to the Warhawks, they look to advance to the next round.

Arrowhead Senior Anthony Martinez said, “The Warhawks look better than they did last year. I’m hoping that we can advance to the next round, but of course the ultimate goal is making it to the state championship at Camp Randall stadium in Madison.”

The last time Arrowhead made it to the state championship was in 2015 when they went on to face number 1 ranked Kimberly at Camp Randall stadium. Arrowhead suffered a loss at the hands of  Kimberly 49-42.

Kimberly, a team that has been back in the tournament for the fifth time after becoming a division 1 school, is back in the tournament again this year and they are ranked at a number 1 seed as well looking to repeat for the fourth straight year.

Arrowhead Senior and Football player Travis Case said, “Looking at the bracket this year for the 2017 playoffs, it looks like it’s going to be tough again—but all we can do is play the best football we can and make it far.”

It should be another interesting year of playoffs for Arrowhead football as they seek another championship from their last one coming in 2013. They will look to get a win this Friday so they can go on to play the winner of Fond du Lac and Milwaukee King, the location and time of this game is to be determined.
