On this Saturday, September 22nd, Janesville is holding a cross country meet for many schools in the state. This meet will feature both boys and girls runners. It is one of the biggest cross country meets of the year.

Senior student Nick von Heimburg said, “Hopefully the cross country team does well. I think they will be pretty successful.”

There are a handful of steep hills and sharp turns for the runners to tackle at Janesville. According to the weather app, the temperatures can get up to 93 degrees this weekend which could make the run difficult. There will be about 85% humidity and the sun will be out with no clouds.

Junior runner from Arrowhead high school, Josh Duimstra said, “I am excited to compete with over 35 different schools in one meet.“

Although It will be hot,all 35 teams will partake in the event, including parents who come to support the runners in the heat.

Runners will begin at 7:30 AM. The busses will leave Arrowhead at 6:00 AM, which could be a problem for some of the runners who were at Hawkfest and the football game against Oconomowoc the night before.

The two mile the record was set by Benji Dvorak (12:37 in 2011). A few other notable records are Matthew Gundrum in 2014 for the 4,000 meter run, he finished with a 14:27.7. Also the 5,000 meter race record was set by Will Simmons in 2014, his time was 15:29.7. Runners will be participating in multiple different events, not just a single race. The 2 mile, the 4,000 mile and the 5,000 mile

The Conference meet at Waukesha West will decide the best team in the conference, which will start at 8:00 AM and will be held next weekend. After that will be sectionals which is still undecided where it will be, but will be the Saturday following conference.

The Janesville meet can affect both the boys and girls season rank and where they fall in the sectionals meet. Both the girls and boys cross country teams have multiple state titles each. Arrowhead student Jake Stemper said,  “I think that both the boys and girls runners will succeed in this upcoming meet.”
