Thoughts on Gun Control

Over the course of three days, June 10th through the 12th, more than 55 people in America lost their lives due to gun violence. This has caused a lot of talk about what should happen to  gun rights.

There are many different views on gun rights. Some people believe everyone should be allowed to have any gun they want, others believe only some guns should be allowed and to only certain people. Many people want there to be no guns in America, although, that would contradict the constitution by not giving people the right to bare arms.

Emily Webster, Arrowhead sophomore voices her opinion, says “We shouldn’t ban them (guns) completely because that would contradict the constitution, however, something needs to be done. Criminal and mental evaluations should be done prior to being able to purchase a firearm.” Webster also believes only certain guns should be available to the public like a small handgun compared to military-grade guns.

Brady Jager, Arrowhead sophomore, says “Guns are made for killing, no matter what anyone says, that is their sole purpose. Without them in our country we would be so much safer and not feel scared to go somewhere to have fun. It’s time for America to make a change.”

After the shooting in Orlando president Barack Obama has been pushing for more gun control. The U.S Congress is doing its best to make military-grade guns harder for the public to get.

The U.S Senate promises to have two bills voted on concerning gun control. One bill is making it illegal for the people on the no-fly list from having access to a gun. The second bill is having background checks on gun purchases
According to WEAU News, Wisconsin republicans have not been discussing whether or not there should be a tighter restriction on gun rights. For those who do want stricter gun rights citizens are able to email their representatives about what they would like to happen.
