Having Fun on A Budget

Skiing, golfing, and horseback riding are enjoyable, yet expensive activities. Many people delight in fun pastimes in the spring and summer, but more than that, people savor saving a dollar or two. And, affordable activities can be just as meaningful and fun as expensive ones. So consider using this spring break to experiment with some of these budget friendly ideas.

Public establishments such as the library can be fun and productive. They not only supply an enormous selection of books, but the library also contains DVDs, CDs, magazines, and audio books for rental. The library hosts free events, as well such as story time and clubs. According to the Hartland Wisconsin Public Library, upcoming events include Movie Monday, March 30, for a showing of “Unbroken” and Super Saturday Story Time. It’s no secret that Wisconsin has beautiful public parks. Swimming, boating, grilling can all be accessed at most parks in the surrounding areas. Large open spaces can be used to relax and enjoy the beauty of Wisconsin. Naga – Waukee Park in Naga – Waukee and Minooka Park in Waukesha are some of the most enjoyed in the area.

Spencer Kain, a University of Wisconsin Milwaukee student says he enjoys coming home to Hartland and exploring the parks. He says, “I love taking my dog out for a walk on nice spring days.”

According to city data Waukesha County has a population of 392, 292 and getting to know your neighbors, although difficult can make the community stronger. Throwing a neighborhood potluck is a way to not only meet some new people, but also an excuse to clear out the pantry. Dual purposed activities are efficient and successful ways to fill spare time.

Learning new skills can be challenging, but in the end rewarding. Knitting, fishing, bowling, origami, and yoga are attainable hobbies. The internet provides unlimited resources and tools in order to learn. So use this spring break to knit a scarf for the next Wisconsin winter.

Cate Wiza, an Arrowhead sophomore, says, “If I’m not going anywhere over spring break hobbies fill up my time well.”

Using spring break to do some cleaning could never hurt, right? You can use that time to rearrange furniture in order to add some new life and dimension to your home.

As April brings in the showers, and May brings the flowers, gardens could use some clean up also. Experimenting with new plants and planning a new layout can be very beneficial since only general upkeep will be necessary in summer.
