NO H8 Week Begins Nov 10

The week of November 10th through the 15th, Arrowhead High School will be joining the nation with the NO H8 Campaign in taking a stand against acts of hate and cyberbullying.

Junior Study Hall teacher, Mrs. Loke said, “Students need to understand that bullying is a real topic and problem, especially at Arrowhead. Being someone who watches these students everyday makes me very aware of the things happening at our school, like making fun of other kids or pushing someone around. Arrowhead is going to make a better environment with the NO H8 week.”

The NO H8 Campaign, located in California, was started in 2008 when California’s Proposition 8 stating that same-sex marriages was banned; The campaign itself is a silent protest which means they don’t picket outside and protest.

Adam Bouska, a celebrity photographer, and partner Jeff Parshley, teamed up and created the idea for the silent campaign. Celebrities from California model a piece of duct tape over their mouth with NO H8 painted on their cheeks. After five years of spreading the word, over 33,000 people have modeled, according to noh8campaign.com, this including celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Tom Bergeron, Tori Spelling, and Janel Parrish.

At Arrowhead, students can support acts against hate and cyber bullying by wearing colors on each day of that week:

Monday students are told to wear green to promote anti-bullying.

Tuesday students are told to wear black to promote diversity (anti-racism).

Wednesday students are told to wear Rainbow/Tye-Dye to support GLBT.

Thursday students are told to wear blue to promote support for people with disabilities

Friday students are told to wear Arrowhead t-shirts to support The Arrowhead Way.

Senior, Blake Martz, said “After all the bullying happening, I like that the school is doing something about it.”
