Jack And Edward Take On Chicago

Jack Johnson is on tour for his new album, “From Here to Now to You.” On May 31st, 2014 Jack Johnson will be at the FirstMerit Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island, Chicago at 7:00 p.m. The opening band for this particular concert will be Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. This concert will be his 8th of 25 performances for this tour.

Cameron England, a sophomore at AHS, says, “I have loved Jack Johnson for a good four years. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros is really far up there for my favorite bands. I found Jack Johnson from my mom and still thank her to this day for showing me his music. One of my really good friends got me into listening to Edward Sharpe, which I am also super grateful for.”

Lizzie Meissner, a junior at AHS, says, “My older brothers have always been into Jack Johnson so I grew up listening to him and the songs he released for the movie ‘Curious George.’ Jack has always been one of my favorite jam artists. Edward Sharpe has a few good songs but I’m definitely going for Jack more.”

In 2001, Johnson released his first album, “Brushfire Fairytales.” Since then he has released six more albums: “From Here to Now to You,” “To The Sea,” “En concert,” “Sleep Through the Static,” “In Between Dreams,” and, “On and On.” His music genre is American folk, rock-acoustic. This makes his fans a very varied group of people.

England says, “My favorite album is ‘Brushfire Fairytales’ because Jack’s guitar solos show how musically talented he is.”

Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros is an American folk-indie band. They formed in Los Angeles, California in 2007. This is a twelve person band, where each person plays a different instrument beside the main singer Alex Ebert.

Meissner says, “My favorite Edward Sharpe album is definitely, ‘Here’ because of how calming it is for me. I love listening to it when i have had a stressful day and need something to calm me down.”

In 2011, Johnson won a Billboard Music award for the album, “To the Sea.” This was a huge accomplishment for Jack Johnson because it had been a dream of his since he was young and just starting to pursue his music career.

Meissner says, “I love how both the music of Edward and the music by Jack remind me of summer. Their vibes in the music are just so chill and bring back good memories of driving around with friends singing their songs. I’ll always love those memories and these artists.”
