Open Enrollment Began Feb 3 at Arrowhead High School
It’s open enrollment time for Arrowhead High School began on February 3rd and goes until April 30th.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Public Information website, the interdistrict public school open enrollment program allows parents to apply for their children to attend public school in a school district other than the one they live in.
Sarah Hahn, a sophomore, says she open enrolled because she lives out of the AHS school district.
“It’s not that much work open enrolling at school. We just have to fill out paperwork, but my parents usually deal with that,” says Hahn.
The regular open enrollment application period for the 2014-15 school year began on February 3, 2014, and ends at 4:00 pm on April 30, 2014. Parents can get the application on the AHS website or in the school’s office.
According to the DPI website, any Wisconsin resident in five-year-old kindergarten through grade 12 may apply to attend a nonresident school district under the open enrollment program.
“I’ve been going to a school out of my district since I was in kindergarten. It’s never been a big deal because I carpool with other people that live in my neighborhood and it’s fun,” says Hahn.
Both the nonresident and resident school districts may deny an application for reasons specified in state law. If an application is denied by either the resident or nonresident school district, the parent may file an appeal with the DPI within 30 days, according to the DPI website.
“I don’t think it’s a big deal living out of district because I like the area I live in, but it would be nice to live a little closer to school,” Hahn says.
