Will Gatorade Flow From Bubblers?
Arrowhead High School is talking about what it would be like to have Gatorade replace water in bubblers. As seen in the movie Idiocracy, Brawndo replaced water completely. Brawndo is the equivalent to Gatorade in our society. Although it is not currently possible to completely replace water with Gatorade, Arrowhead students were talking about this hypothetical scenario.
In Idiocracy, Joe Bauers said, “We should put water on the crops instead of Brawndo.” Secretary of State said, “But Brawndo has what plants crave! It’s got electrolytes.”
Gatorade is a sports drink that comes in a variety of flavors. The company is known for its thirst quenching drinks. Gatorade is targeted towards athletic individuals who want to stay hydrated. They have been in business for 40 years.
Arrowhead senior Carysa Jorgensen said, “I think it would pretty cool to switch to Gatorade. I mean we are primarily an athletic school, so I think it would be good.”
Gatorade contains electrolytes that help stimulate the body. Electrolytes are nutrients such as sodium and potassium. Sodium and potassium help stimulate brain activity and communication.
Arrowhead senior Monica Anderson said, “No! We shouldn’t switch to Gatorade. I love water. You can’t take away my water.”
Gatorade targets athletes because athletic activity makes people sweat. Sweating causes a loss sodium and potassium. One 12oz bottle of Gatorade contains 160mg sodium and 45mg potassium.
Carbohydrates are also necessary for the body to perform efficiently. One 12oz bottle of Gatorade contains 21 grams of carbohydrates.
Carbohydrates produce energy for the body. This energy is measured in calories. One 12oz bottle of Gatorade contains 80 calories.
Arrowhead senior Jake Hess said, “I would prefer to have water, but it would be nice to have the option of both. Gatorade is good, but water is healthier and not everyone likes Gatorade.”
