Arrowhead S.A.D.D. Club Sponsors Local Food Drive
Food drives are most common during the November and December months. But even in Hartland, Wisconsin, many citizens and families cannot afford a sustainable amount of food throughout the year…not just during big holidays.
This is why Arrowhead High School’s Students Against Destructive Decisions (S.A.D.D.) club is sponsoring a February food drive. This event will take place from February 17-28 and all donations will go to the Hartland Food Pantry, located across from the Lake Country Racquet Club and ABC Supply Company.
Students are encouraged to bring in nonperishable food products to their third period class. The S.A.D.D. members have made a contest out of the event, hoping to give students more reason to donate.
The members set up a system where each item of food brought will equal a certain amount of points. This system consist of canned food equaling one point, boxed food equaling two points, and peanut butter equaling three points. After the food drive ends, S.A.D.D. will count the points from each third hour classroom and the class with the highest amount of points will earn prizes.
S.A.D.D. reports that South Campus and North Campus will have separate contests. The members of the club have not yet announced what the prizes will be.
But even though the club asked teachers to post the Food Drive fliers in their classrooms and promote the food drive, many students still have not heard about the event.
Austin Konen, a junior at Arrowhead High School, says, “None of my teachers mentioned the food drive and I have not the seen the fliers.”
In the future, clubs can better promote their events by announcing them over the school speakers at the beginning and the end of the day, emailing students the details, or asking teachers if they could come talk to their class about the event and how to contribute.
If students or community member want to keep donating to the Hartland Food Pantry, they can do so at 555 S Industrial Dr, Hartland, WI 53029.
