AHS Girls Hockey Team’s Final Hurrah!

The Arrowhead Hockey Team’s season is coming to an end.  They have their first playoff game this Thursday at 5:45 pm in Green Bay versus Green Bay.  Green Bay is the number one team in the state.  Arrowhead is ranked last in their division.

The team’s goalie, Abbey Weisrock, a sophomore, says that this could possibly be their last game.

“I think our team is going to try our best to succeed,” Weisrock says.

Weisrock says this year’s season has been challenging for the girls because of the loss of experienced seniors from last year.  Some seniors they lost to graduation are Hannah Bird and Sara Hopkins.

This year the team has had three wins and 15 losses in their season.  Weisrock says they are hoping to win the next game so they can move on to the next playoff game.  If they lose their game this Thursday, they will be out of the payoffs and their season will be over.

“I’m freaking out and I’m very nervous for the game,” says Weisrock.

Weisrock has been playing since she was four years old and she says she is very committed to the sport.  She drives an hour from where she lives to come to Arrowhead for hockey.  She’s also trying out for a select team for the first time this year.  However, not all of the people on the team have been playing for as long as Weisrock.

“A lot of the beginners this year have improved a lot; they can actually turn and stop now.  I think the training has been very good for everyone this season,” Weisrock says.

There’s only one team for the Arrowhead girls hockey.  It’s a no cut sport, so everyone who tries out makes the varsity team.

“My teammates have really grown to love each other this season and it’s been great spending time with everybody.  I’m excited for all the new people we’re going to be on the team next year too,” says Weisrock.
