Packers Season Ends Terribly
Coming into the 2013 season, the Green Bay Packers dreamed of winning the NFC North division and the super bowl. Although the Packers reached one of their goals (winning the NFC North) they didn’t succeed in winning a super bowl.
The Green Bay Packers entered the 2013 season as an underrated team. After finishing the pre-season with a record of 1-3 (losing to the Kansas City Chiefs, Seattle Seahawks, and Arizona Cardinals) the Packers players were excited to start the regular season.
On September 8th, the Green Bay Packers opened up the regular season playing against an NFL powerhouse team: the San Francisco 49ers. The Packers ended up losing this game 28-34 and also losing their first round draft pick Eddie Lacy to an injury.
After a rough start to the regular season, the Packers entered week five with a 1-2 record. The fresh Packers, coming off a bye week, took on the Detroit Lions and started their four-game win streak.
The Packers went into week nine with a 5-2 record, taking on the Chicago Bears. The Packers starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered a broken collarbone in the first quarter of the game. Back up Matt Flynn entered the game for Rodgers. The Packers went on to lose this game. This was the start of a winning drought for the Packers.
During the next seven weeks, Rodgers was sidelined with a broken collarbone. While Flynn was the starting quarterback for the Packers, they went 2-4-1 record. The Packers were 7-7-1 and looked to be out of the post season with a loss next week to the Chicago Bears.
Entering week 17, the Packers traveled down to Solider Field (home of the Chicago Bears) for week 17’s match up. The winner of the game was the NFC North champion and got a bid in the playoffs. For the loser, the season was over.
Aaron Rodgers came back of his injury to face the team that injured him in week nine and Rodgers came back and lead the Packers to a final drive victory taking the lead in the fourth quarter with just seconds left. The Packers held on for the victory and were named NFC North Champions.
Going into the post season, the Packers took on the San Francisco 49ers (the team who had beat them in week one). The Packers were the hottest team in the NFL coming off their week 17 wins over the Chicago Bears.
The 49ers then traveled to Lambeau Field to take on the Packers in -25 degree weather. The Packers and the 49ers battled all game. Then, with three seconds left, the 49ers kicked a game winning field goal to move on in the playoffs and end Green Bay’s season.
