There is a mix of different styles and fashion-related opinions in today’s media. It seems like every week there is a new trend or product to buy. Juniors and seniors from both Arrowhead and Waukesha North provided insights into fashion vs. fad.
A dying trend is the “preppy” look. The preppy style includes bright colors and clothes from brands such as Lululemon and Aviator Nation. These brands are still very popular, and they are cute. However, the preppy trend will not likely make it past 2025.
“Camo and bows,” Ava Hayes, Arrowhead junior, said. She believes that these trends will die out soon, having gotten very popular very quickly. Camo will last a few more seasons, but bows will not.
Another trend that has been slowly dying is skinny jeans. “Skinny jeans. They’ve got to die because of everything about it,” Juan Diego Agostini Bello, sophomore at Waukesha North, said. “You’ll see less and less people wearing skinny jeans…it will probably change from skinny to baggy or something else.”
Finally, a beauty related trend is the slick back hairstyle. “Slick back hair is ugly and I hate it. I have never done and will never do it,” Ashley Megal, junior at Arrowhead, said. “I think everyone looks bald.” The trend does not seem to be dying anytime soon, but Megal’s prediction may end up being correct and slick back hair will most likely be replaced with another hairstyle.
With social media being a front runner for world-wide communication, it is hard to not get caught up in fashion trends and what new ‘must-have’ items there are. But remember, like anything in life, trends will fade with time.
