After teasing fans with the promise of new music over the past few months, the highly anticipated single ‘Love Somebody’ by country singer Morgan Wallen was released on Friday, October 18th.
Wallen first previewed ‘Love Somebody’ on his TikTok account in May and then performed the song on the European Leg of his One Night At A Time tour. Following that, he announced the song’s release date during his two performances at the University of Tennessee’s Neyland Stadium on Friday, September 20, and Sunday, September 22.
“‘Love Somebody’ is a little bit of a new approach lyrically and sonically,” Wallen said. “I wanted to try something different, with what I wanted to talk about, how I wanted it to sound, and we were inspired by Latin-leaning influences.”
As Wallen said, he delves into a new sound that is different from his norm with pop and Latin influences being prevalent. These influences show the diversity of his music creation.
“I like ‘Love Somebody’ because it’s different from his other music which makes me like it more,” Emily Corteen, Arrowhead Junior, said.
Wallen co-wrote the song with John Byron, Ashley Gorley, Jacob Kasher Hindlin, Elof Loelv, and Ryan Vojtesak. Exploring themes about heartbreak and finding a lover who won’t end up hurting him, Wallen benefited from production assistance by Joey Moi and Charlie Handsome.
‘Love Somebody’ offers an early glimpse at Wallen’s upcoming new album and is expected to be another smash hit for the popular country singer. After its opening weekend, the song became the number-one country song on Apple Music; on Spotify, it has had over 8 million streams.
‘Love Somebody’ became Wallen’s first song as a solo artist to debut at Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. It simultaneously debuted at Number 1 globally on 11 charts and broke a record for his third time claiming Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Country Song charts simultaneously.
Although the five-month wait was long, many fans, including myself, believe it was worth the wait.
