Students can utilize the Flex app during the 2024-2025 school year to schedule and take attendance for their resource periods. This feature is new and attendance is taken when students scan a QR code with their phones through the app. Students can choose from different options for their resource periods in the morning. Teachers can also schedule students to their own resource period for extra help or to help students catch up if they were absent.
Students must schedule their resource period by midnight the night before or else they are placed into a catch-all resource period group. The catch-all is located in the cafeteria and functions as a study hall.
Several students expressed thoughts on the app and about resource periods in general.
“I hate it,” Ellaina Ward, a senior, said. “Our attendance shouldn’t have to be recorded.”
A common complaint is that day-by-day scheduling is inconvenient, but despite this many students remain in favor of this system.
“I like having the app on my phone because it is easier to access than a computer,” Claire Wolfe, a senior, said. “It’s a bit irritating that it closes at midnight, and I wish we had the option to do weekly or monthly sign ups for those who know where they’re going ahead of time.”
Overall, the student opinion on the Flex app is mixed, and it remains to be seen how students will adjust to this change.
