For the 2024 – 2025 school year, Arrowhead has implemented a new schedule change. Arrowhead is one of the last high schools in the area to implement the block schedule. The schedule change has been an adjustment for both teachers and students.
Timothy Tower, Sociology teacher, said, “I think it has helped kids to manage their time a little bit better. I think it’s helped kids get more involved in the classroom and I think that some kids appreciate having a little more time.”
The new extended periods have allowed for a variety of advantages for students, such as more in depth work time. “It allows for more flexibility and some of the things we’ve done in class,” Tower said. “I have more assignments on Canvas now, and they are more in depth.”
When going into the school year with a whole new schedule, it can be challenging on teachers to change their own class schedule. It can also impact teaching methods. “I think it’s definitely improved my teaching methods in the sense that I’ve been able to add a list of additional resources for students/ I think that in the classroom, having additional time has made more in-depth conversations,” Timothy Tower said.
