Jenna Zieman is a first year teacher at Arrowhead.
The first day of school, work, or even a new sport, can be intimidating and anxiety inducing for anyone. New people, navigating through the environment or even old, familiar faces can cause stress. “I was able to navigate school better than I thought, and the students were so nice and kind. I found it to be overall a good day- I think that maybe I was anxious for no reason,” Zieman said.
“I thought traffic would be way worse than it is, I was anticipating just a very different commute, and it was easy and I think that set the tone for the rest of the day,” Zieman said.
The change of schedule is new for everybody within Arrowhead Union High School. Though for Zieman this was no different from her past teaching jobs.
“I was excited because I have worked in a block schedule for eight years. But the first day is always fun because you’re learning about your students, and then you’re reading through the syllabus. So there is always a solid playbook for the day,” Zieman said. “Arrowhead has to be one of the last schools in the area to implement the block schedule and the resource period. I’m glad to see these changes but I also feel like deja vu a little bit because I’ve already done this like eight years ago.”
“At Arrowhead this year I don’t have as many unique preps so it’s a little bit nicer schedule for me because I’m teaching personal law, web design, and then on Blue days I’m teaching only study skills all day so I only have three classes to prepare for,” Zieman said.
“I feel good about Arrowhead; I think there’s a lot of opportunity here,” Zieman said. “I know that business is a very popular elective and I only see the department growing and I’m really excited for what’s to come.”
