Second semester at Arrowhead high school started on a B-day: Monday, January 22, 2024. This is when students got new classes, and teachers. Second semester restarts grades—meaning that whatever students earned the first semester does not carry over to the second semester.
Senior Grace Hamilton stated that she likes the two semester system at Arrowhead because it allows a new start and an opportunity to try new and different classes.
While some classes change, others may stay the same. For instance, students may have a pre-calc second hour everyday for the whole year and have the same teacher. The schedules vary for each student depending on what classes they sign up for.
Many students drop out of first semester classes that they do not enjoy.
Students have until the end of the first week of second semester to drop class which is Monday, January 29th.
Junior Rachel Reidy said, “I did drop ceramics to put in for gym one-two A days. And I also added parenting into my schedule because I had an extra study hall and it was not difficult at all to drop and add classes that I would enjoy taking.”
Classes vary and students can take math classes or art classes however much they want as long as they have the right amount of credits for each subject.
Students need six math credits, six science, six social studies, eight English, three gym, 16 electives, and students must take health as well as US history or AP US history. Then students normally take more classes they enjoy or elective credits to get 50 to graduate.
Senior Rachel Kleinhans said, “I have already taken all the credits I need so this last semester a lot of my classes are easy electives or extra credits for math and science courses.”
A block class every other day is worth one credit, a block class everyday is worth two credits, and one class everyday is with one credit for each semester.
Senior Taylor Thimmesch said, “I would say my classes are pretty good for my last semester at Arrowhead.”
The last day of the second semester for seniors is May 31st, 2024 and ends June 7th, 2024 for freshman, sophomore, and juniors.
