Student Senate at Arrowhead has brought back one of their annual traditions: the Giving Tree. The Giving Trees are located in South Campus in the library and North Campus in the entryway next to the main office. The giving ran from November 17th through December 7th.
Every December students and teachers take a tag, purchase the gift requested, and return the unwrapped gift along with a gift receipt to the Giving Tree. Arrowhead is sponsoring area families with the Waukesha County Christmas Clearing Council.
Social Studies Teacher, Tamara Lindmair says, “I have helped coordinate it for the past 10 years in my role as a Senate Advisor and it was a tradition well before that. We partner with the Christmas Clearing Council of Waukesha County which has been helping families since 1949.”
This year Arrowhead is sponsoring three families and the three families, which total consist of 10 children, ranging from one to seventeen years old. Another option families have is if they would like to contribute larger items or donations, they can contact Lindmair at [email protected] and ask her any questions that anyone may have.
Lindmair said, “I think it is important for students to learn the value of giving back if they are in the position to do so. You never know when you might be the one needing a little extra help in life. It is great to see our students getting into the spirit of giving and being so willing and eager to help others. We truly have the best students at Arrowhead.”
Churches in local areas are taking place in the Giving Tree as well. St. Charles Parish in Hartland, for example, is also doing their own form of a giving tree with their gifts going to local families in need. Also, at St. Margaret Mary in Milwaukee, they are doing a tree with their gifts going to St. Anne’s Nursing Home and St. Vincent De Paul for them to hand out the gifts as well.
Lindmair said, “I believe participation in this event has a tremendous impact on those who participate. It is rewarding to see our school community come together to make such a difference in the lives of the families we are lucky enough to sponsor. They are tremendously grateful and overwhelmed by the generosity of our students and families. It is one of my favorite parts of the year.”
