On November 15th, 2023, third hour classes were extended at North and South campus so students could take the BESS mental health screening survey, the Arrowhead Climate survey, and the SpeakUp survey.
Third hour was extended from a 40 minute class period to a one hour and eight minute period.
Within the extended period, students completed the surveys and the regularly scheduled class work.
“The [SpeakUp survey] was reasonable because it actually affects the students but it’s really long,” says senior Tia Salerno.
The SpeakUp survey is provided by Project Tomorrow and asks questions about how technology is used at school and at home and can be taken by students, parents, educators, and administrators.
“They’re a waste of time but I answered the technology survey honestly,” says senior Halee Daniel.
According to the Survey Information document shared with teachers, only 9th and 11th graders took the BESS mental health survey and all students took the SpeakUp and Arrowhead Climate surveys.
“I think they were useless because we do them every year and there is no change. I wish the school would actually take the surveys into consideration,” says senior Mia DeAnglis.
