Arrowhead High school’s staff and teachers have continued their growing tradition of dressing up to have a Halloween costume contest. For the past thirteen years, Arrowhead staff has participated in this with Kathi Koepke, a spanish teacher as the organizer.
This is a competition between both the north and south campus staff. All staff members have a chance at winning the group or individual category along with a small trophy.
Various departments of Arrowhead teamed up and dressed as a group, like south campus office staff, the north campus guidance counseling staff, and the language department.
“Dressing up is optional for teachers; they can participate if they want to. The last few years, I feel like teachers have been participating more and more,” says Jeanne Psket, a world language teacher.
This year, the World Language department dressed as an ensemble—featuring Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.Terese Rentmeester starred as Snow White, Jennifer Charles as the Evil Queen, and Tim Gliniecki as the prince. The rest of the staff made up the seven Dwarfs.
“I didn’t come up with our theme but I was very on board. It was a comfortable costume to wear,” says Amy Coraggio, a language teacher who dressed as the dwarf Sleepy.
“I was Dopey. I wanted to be Dopey because I didn’t want to wear a beard so I chose the big ears,” says Psket.
Students and other staff members were able to vote on which groups had the best costumes. Many students guessed correctly what their teachers were dressed as.
“I got many positive responses from students, but most thought I was an admiral or something, so my inner prince charming didn’t shine through as intended,” says Gliniecki.
The south campus office staff won the traveling trophy in this year’s overall group category. The language department won the best ensemble.
“Oh yeah, we are coming back. We are definitely looking for redemption next year. We will look to Mrs. Koepke for input,” says Coraggio.
