Arrowhead English Teacher Maralynn Markano received an award from Honored for the month of October due to her hard work and dedication to teaching.
Arrowhead’s principal, Adam Kurth, was the one to inform Markano of the news during her speech class.
“He asked me if I had read my email yet, which I hadn’t, so he proceeded to announce it to the whole class and then whispered in my ear about the monetary award that came with it,” said Markano.
Markano was the one to first start the theater program here at Arrowhead.
“In those first moments, I was stunned and shocked and surprised, not even sure how it happened, really,” said Markano, recalling that day.
Markano plans to spend the $1,000 reward on the Donors Choose website. This nonprofit organization is a teacher wishlist. It helps teachers gather supplies to improve their teaching for their students.
Markano said that when she went to check her email, she found it in the email’s trash.
She said, “it was a really good thing Mr. Kurth came to tell me or I wouldn’t have known!”
