English 10 at Arrowhead is starting its first project this year. After reading two to three short stories and being tested on those stories, it’s now the students’ job to show what they know.
They are going to make a short movie about anything with English criteria per the rubric sent out by the teachers of the project.
Sophomore Ella Lowe said, “I am excited to make a movie. I’ve learned a lot of things in English and I can’t wait to apply it to a movie setting with a group of my classmates.”
English teachers Ryan Andrews, David Gierach, and Michelle Verkler are all assigning the movie project to their students this week. The students will have as many days as needed to make the movie; however, the length will have to be three minutes or less.
Gierach said, “I am excited to see student’s creativity that they use in these short stories or movies. I’m looking forward to sharing them with their peers and watching them together in a class setting.”
According to Gierach, students have to apply their learning skills outside of the classroom while still making their videos funny and school-appropriate. Students have to record and then the videos will be shared with the class.
Geirach said, “I want students to put their best effort forward into the project and to make it the best possible movie with being eight weeks into school with the knowledge that they’ve gained in class.”
Students have till Friday to complete the movie along with the story map document that they were given on Monday. It is important for students to have the document and the movie completed so that they get full credit points.
