Students Plans For St. Patrick’s Day

March 17, 2023 is noted as St. Patrick’s Day. A holiday many have been celebrating since March 17, 1737, is coming up once again.

Students at Arrowhead are recreating the traditions they participated in as a kid for younger generations.

Alyson Lo, an Arrowhead senior said, “For my little siblings, I’ll cut out little footprints and scatter them throughout the room along with candy to make it look like the leprechaun came.”

Cuisine is a large part of the St. Patrick’s Day holiday. Many notable food items include Reuben’s, Shamrock Shakes, Corn Beef and Cabbage, and many others.

The Arrowhead Cafeteria will not have any St. Patrick’s Day themed foods. It’ll be regularly scheduled as a Hot Chicken and Black Bean Rice Bowl.

Mikayla Hopwood, an Arrowhead senior said, “Every St Patrick’s day, I go to McDonald’s to get a Shamrock Shake. It’s been such a tradition for me ever since I could remember. I used to go there with my family, but now I have my license and take myself there.”

From Arrowhead, the nearest McDonald’s locations are on Ryan St. In Pewaukee, and on WI-83 In Delafield.  Shamrock Shake sizes offered are small, medium, and large. This year, McDonald’s is also bringing back the Oreo Shamrock McFlurry which came out in 2020 in honor of McDonald’s 50th anniversary. They will be offering these options before closing on the night of the 17th.

Students have also had gatherings with their family for St. Patrick’s Day.

Kasia Lecaire, an Arrowhead senior says, “I’m going with my family for a St Patrick’s Day party. We have around 25 people gather and cook good food, go to church, and play games.”

St. Patrick’s Day is also celebrated in colors. One of the most popular colors for St Patrick’s Day is green. Some students match the theme for Friday’s holiday.

Ryanne Steinbauer, an Arrowhead junior, is planning an outfit for St Patrick’s Day.

Steinbauer said, “I will be wearing green, that’s for sure. Whether it’s a top or an accessory there will be green on me.”

Themes are large parts of parades and there will be a few parades to catch on. One of the larger events is the Town of Erin St. Patrick’s Day parade. According to Lake Country Family Fun, “The start of the parade will be located at the intersection of Hwy K and Shamrock Lane. The event is scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m.”

The weather on 3/17 is supposed to be a high of 31 F and cloudy with the weekend showing sunny weather but a high of 25 F on Saturday but the backup to 39 F on Sunday.

Whatever the weather may be, be sure to take part in some St Patrick’s Day Festivities.
