Cross Country Season Preview This Year
August 15th was the beginning of Arrowhead’s Boys and Girls 2022 Cross Country season.
According to some of the runners, this upcoming season has the possibility of having some rising stars on the run.
Mame Wagner is a senior this year at Arrowhead and this is her fourth year of cross country. “It’s going swell, let me elaborate. The coaches are super awesome. They’re really good at communicating and understanding if you have injuries going on. More girls should join because it’s a great group of girls and it’s like a self sport that you can do by yourself,” she says.
She thinks it’s going to go really well this season and is optimistic that both girls and boys will make it to state.
Arrowhead junior Anne Straka has been running for basically her whole life–but technically began running competitively in fourth grade, so that would make eight years and counting.
Arrowhead’s next meet is this Saturday on the 24th in Jamesville. As one of Anne’s favorites, she said: “I think the meet on the 24th will go well because the course is flat and fast and there are a lot of teams that come so the environment is super fun and positive.”
Nathan Klauck says that “The season is going well, although it’s been difficult keeping up motivation due to the amount of school work I get and how much time xc removes from my time to complete it.” He also added, “I have hit around the general times I’m aiming for and making steady progress, I have also PR’ed in my last race.”
The boys cross country team practices just about every day for just over 2 hours to prepare for their next meet. Motivation can be a problem for some people. “ I’m worried about how my motivation will affect me, and whether or not I will start to peak”, Klauck.
Some goals for this season include, “The girls I think will make it to state, the boys, let’s be optimistic they will too”, Wagner said. Klauck also said, “I’m not entirely certain, but I think both the girls and boys have a good chance at making it to state as we both have solid varsity teams.” The runners are working towards the varsity state which takes place on the 29th of October.
Another goal would be to “Break 16, contribute as much as possible to my team (both on the course and off), as well as possibly winning or placing as runner up at state”, Klauck said. Wagner contributed that “It’s going to go really well, we’re keeping a lot of the girls healthy.”
Anne Straka , has been running cross country “basically my whole life but technically started competing in fourth grade so that would make 8 years and counting.” Arrowhead’s next meet is this Saturday on the 24th in Jamesville.
