Girls Varsity Field Hockey Team Hoping for a State Championship
This year’s Arrowhead Varsity Girls Field Hockey team is in the middle of their playoff tournament. The first playoff game was played on Tuesday, October 15, at Arrowhead High School. Arrowhead won 7-0 verus DSHA’s Varsity Red team. Arrowhead was seeded third and DSHA was seeded sixth.
The next playoff determines who goes to state and it is played on Thursday, October 17 at DSHA at 3:45. The semifinal game is against DSHA’s other varsity team and will be played at DSHA.
Riley Knapek, a junior on the varsity field hockey team, said, “We are all really excited going into the tournament. We are hoping to win state because we were runner- ups last year.”
Knapek says she has nerves because she and the team really want to win state for the seniors. Knapek said this senior grade hasn’t won state yet.
Elle Lichte, a senior captain on the varsity field hockey team, said, “I am really excited for the playoff tournament because we have great potential to go all the way. At the same time, I am sad because it is the last high school playoff tournament I will play for field hockey.”
Lichte also said she will lead the team this tournament by making sure everyone is calm and not too nervous.
Knapek said, “DSHA is not fundamentally better than us, but they play very physical and hard. So it will be a good game.”
Knapek also said, “If we get to state this year, we will most likely play USM and they are our biggest competition. We have played them twice and they have beaten us both times.”
The Field Hockey State game will be played on Saturday, October 19th at 5:30 PM. Arrowhead will be playing the first seeded team USM in Wauwatosa.
Lichte said as a captain she has set goals for the team throughout this entire season. Their last goal is to win the second playoff game and then to win state.
