2020 to Me – Amber Blaha, Senior
The year 2020 definitely took a huge turn for most of us, including myself, and led up to many unpredictable events. Due to this, I, along with many others, failed to meet many of our resolutions set for that year. Now that the year is over, 2021 looks intimidating as I don’t know what to expect. So when making resolutions this year, I will start small. This will be beneficial and will help me achieve my goals. I will also break down these resolutions into small steps to help achieve them, and treat them as a plan, not a resolution. And most importantly, I will keep my list short and be easy on myself, not try to overachieve and make goals I know I won’t reach. I will feel more accomplished this way, and I won’t feel repulsed.
So in terms of myself and the goals I would like to set for the upcoming year, I’m going to take it day by day. Such as getting a better night’s sleep so I can be more productive at school, getting my school work done as soon as I can so I can feel more relaxed and have more downtime, being more mindful about my food choices, and doing something active when I can. As you can see, my list is short and simple and something I know I can achieve if I put my mind to it and start off slow by taking small steps. I will also make it more of a priority to set aside the proper amount of time every day to do something that helps lower my stress and brightens my mood such as reading or journaling. I find this very important because at times I feel so overwhelmed with all I have to do and that puts me in a horrible mood. By doing this it gives me a break and will increase my happiness leading to me getting more accomplished.
Overall, this year I will take it slow and don’t get too ahead of myself. I am usually prone to setting huge goals at the beginning of the year and never following through. So this year I will make it mandatory that I do not do that, and that I will start small and not be so hard on myself, even if I don’t achieve everything that I want to by the end of this year. And most importantly, I will be proud and reward myself for what I have accomplished, no matter how small the resolution.
