Students Take Mid-Winter Break
Students attending Arrowhead High School are going to receive a four day weekend this week, with Friday and Monday off of school on January 15th and 18th. This is considered a mid-winter break.
On Tuesday, January 12th, school was canceled due to a snow day. This was Arrowhead’s fifth day of school canceled since second semester began.
After this mid-winter break, juniors will be taking the ACT on Wednesday, January 20th, and Thursday, January 21st. Seniors have off those days leaving a two day week for them. Tuesday and Friday will be regular school days.
“I am so pumped for this four day weekend. With the snow day and everything this week, I’m surprised they didn’t take it away. Although, they did take away our Monday from spring break after Easter which is a bummer but I guess it’s no big deal. That is, of course, if you hadn’t planned your vacation on that day… I won’t be spending my four day weekend working because I requested off from my job just so I could be lazy all weekend. I won’t be doing homework either. Just relaxing and having fun,” said senior Michael Mikoda.
The fifth snow day will be made up on April 22nd.
“I’m so nervous for the ACT. I hope I do well. I’m going to be spending my four day weekend prepping for the ACT. I was at south at the time when the juniors took the ACT last year and there was a bomb threat and we all had to be evacuated from school. It was towards the end of the day, so it didn’t interfere with my classes very much. But yeah, I’ll just be studying for the ACT,” says junior Nick Oliaro.
“How am I going to spend my four day weekend? Not thinking about school, that’s for sure. I’m so happy we got to keep our four day weekend. Especially with all of these snow and cold days that we’ve been having. I mean, this has to be a record. How many days does Arrowhead even prep for snow days? How many are built in? One? Two? Not five. I mean, why would they. But then again, why wouldn’t they? It’s Wisconsin. The state with the most unpredictable weather patterns in the country,” says senior Abby Fritz.
“Over the four day weekend I’m going to apply for scholarships, and all that fun stuff for college. I’d rather do it now than over spring break,” says senior Kobe Chang.
