Should Arrowhead Students get a day Dedicated to College Applications?
“For seniors, the most stressful time of the year is the beginning of the year. When it comes to applying to college, it brings a lot of stress to kids,” AHS senior Julia Wesley said. “As a student, it was so much work when it came to applying to college.”
Wesley says that it would help students if there were a day dedicated to working on college applications.
“Senior year is the year that everyone looks forward to the most. Not everyone can say that after a month of working on college applications. It is a lot to handle at once and causes so much stress for students. There is also a program called FLIGHT which help with college applications, but some kids can not make it,” said Wesley.
Wesley says that if there was a day spent on college applications, students would feel a lot less stressed out.
“I think it would help students out the most if the teachers were there to guide us through questions that we had,” Wesley said.
Wesley said that having to work on college applications, on top of working, playing sports and going to school was too much to handle and a lot on her plate.
Senior AHS student Fran Penny says she has a different perspective.
“I think that it isn’t too much to handle if you plan your time wisely. You have to be dedicated and want to complete it,” Penny said.
Penny says she never had a problem when it came time to apply to college because she spread it out over time.
Penny says, “I understand why people would get stressed out and think it is a lot to handle but you just have to get it done in pieces instead of all at once. There are always people that are there to help if you have questions.”
Penny said, “People over think applying to college and that’s the biggest problem.”
Penny says that is wouldn’t make sense to dedicate a day to it because for some people is pointless.
Penny says, “There are a lot of people who aren’t going to college or just want to work on it, on their own. So it wouldn’t make sense to postpone a whole day for college applications.
Penny said, “It is all in your head.”
