Arrowhead Broadway Company “Whips Into Shape” for Opening Night
Opening night came for Arrowhead’s Broadway Company’s first performance of Legally Blonde on Thursday, October 19th, at 7:00 pm at Arrowhead. Tickets range in price from $12 to $20 depending on the seats, and can be bought on Arrowhead’s website.
The concept of doing Legally Blonde for this year’s fall show came from the inspirations and talents of McKenna Plath, Arrowhead senior, according to other senior broadway members.
Plath’s two older sisters are both alumni of Broadway, the oldest currently performing on national tours around the country and the younger attending the University of Arizona studying dance.
Plath landed the role of Elle Woods, a recently heartbroken and determined college student. After living a spoiled lifestyle, she decides to transfer to Harvard Law school in hopes of getting her ex-boyfriend, Warner, back. Warner is played by senior Matthew Nienhaus.
“I knew since freshman year we were going to do this as our senior show. McKenna is perfect for the role of Elle, and she’s my best friend so it’s super cool that I can play as one of her love interests.” Says Nienhaus.
“I don’t really get nervous anymore. After rehearsing relentlessly since mid July, I feel really ready. We are going to kill it,” Plath says.
Emmett Forrest, portrayed by senior Gary Griepentrog, is the other love interest of Elle. He also attends Harvard Law and quickly takes interest in her individuality.
To spread awareness for the show, Broadway Company parents have been placing signs in yards around our community. They have also gotten small businesses, such as Mid-City Sports, to advertise using LED signs.
The show is running the 19th, 20th, 21st, 27th, and 28th of October. All shows on weeknights began at 7:00 pm. Tickets can be bought at www.arrowheadschools.org, and the “Legally Blonde tickets” link is right on the home page.
