AHS Broadway Company Prepares for Fall Musical

AHS Broadway Company is preparing for their fall musical, Legally Blonde, over the next week, July 17th through July 21st, as they dive into their summer camp week, according to directors Grace Bielski and Gustavo Chaviano. During the week AHS Broadway Company members will learn and rehearse the songs, dances, and lines of their fall musical, which will open on October 19th, according to Bielski and Chaviano.

“Broadway Company is truly an opportunity you can’t pass up,” says senior member, Mitchel Rudolph. Rudolph has been in Broadway Company since his sophomore year and has acted in the 2015 fall musical, Hello, Dolly!, the 2016 fall musical, The Addams Family, and the 2016 and 2017 Music Theater Nights. Rudolph explains that camp week is a long week where everyone works hard to prepare the best performance for the audience.

The member’s hard work during camp week pays off  because the fall musical earns many Tommy nominations every year, according to the Company’s website. The Tommy Awards encourage, recognize, and honor excellence in high school musical theater, according to the Tommy Awards website. Nominations are decided by educators, and industry professionals, that review productions at more that 70 high schools in 23 counties, according to the Tommy Awards website. Last year, the Company’s production of The Addams Family earned 23 Tommy Nominations and won the Tommy Awards for Outstanding Musical and Outstanding Lead Performance by recent AHS graduate, Jackson Calhoun, according to Chaviano and Calhoun.

Company members spend their camp days at school working on the production and their camp nights together working on team building, according to senior member Maria Beilke. According to Beilke, Company members spend every night together from 7pm to 8pm to get to know their fellow Company members and cast mates.

AHS Broadway Company’s production of Legally Blonde will open on October 19th and will run shows on October 20th, 21st, 22nd, 27th and 28th.  Times and ticket prices are currently to be determined, according to the Company’s website.
