Arrowhead Hosts 2017 NHS Quiz Bowl

North Campus Cafeteria, where the Quiz Bowl will be hosted this year.

Arrowhead High School’s third annual National Honors Society Quiz Bowl is happening on Monday, March 27th at 6:30 PM in the North Campus Cafeteria. The cost is $10 to enter a team of four or five players. The $10 entry fee goes towards the funding of NHS senior scholarships. The deadline for signup is March 22nd, which gives you 12 days to sign you and your team up for the Quiz Bowl! If you are interested in signing up, you can visit the North or South Campus front office for a sign-up form.

How the Quiz Bowl works is each team will receive a question, and will be given one minute to correctly answer the question. Teams work together to come up with a consensus as to which answer is the most appropriate. The winning team will be able to donate their winnings to a charity/organization of their choice.

The teachers that are in charge of this event are Ryan Andrews, an English teacher at South Campus, and Kari Fellabaum, an English teacher at North Campus.

The Quiz Bowl poster can be found here, and if you have further questions, you can contact Andrews at [email protected].

Andrews says teams participating should “find a well rounded group, so that you can make it all the way to the end.” He says teams should participate because “it’s a chance for [students] to go head to head with their peers and their teachers, in a quest for ultimate trivia domination.”

According to Andrews, “If I were a student, I would participate in the Quiz Bowl because I would drool and salivate at the thought of being able to flex my intellectual muscles, and use my knowledge of pop culture, academics, and other non sensible facts to destroy my competition.”

Alongside Andrews, Fellabaum will co-host the Quiz Bowl. Her advice to all teams participating is to “brush up on your teacher background knowledge.” She says teams should participate because “it’s a great opportunity for you and your friends to test your knowledge. All the kids that have attended in the past had a blast. There are teachers that participate, too, which gives students a chance to challenge their own knowledge against their teachers.”

According to Fellabaum, “I would attend the Quiz Bowl because I like to test myself and see how much trivia I know. It would also be a chance to spend time with my friends outside of class and maybe even meet new people.

Andrews says he would describe the Quiz Bowl as “fun, trivia, and joy,” while Fellabaum says Quiz Bowl is “challenging, fun, and exciting.”
