Students Stress About College

Acceptance package of the University of Whitewater.

High school seniors are in their last semester of high school while some are getting ready for college, others are preparing for careers. For the students getting ready for college, there are numerous tasks on the to do list. They have to first write their college essay, send in the admissions applications get accepted, send transcripts, apply for loans, scholarships and grants, and then pick roommates.

“Just finding out that I got into [UW] Whitewater was a big stress reliever,” says Greendale senior, Nick Russell. “I wasn’t sure if I would make it in or not, but when I got the letter, I finally got all that stress off my back.”

“Even though I got accepted, I feel like there is still a lot to do,” says Germantown senior, Colt Steffen. “I have so much to do like order my books and pick the course classes, I also need to apply for some scholarships and loans. It doesn’t seem like a whole lot but it sure is when you’re lazy like me.”

The University of Wisconsin recommends that the students apply for as many scholarships, grants and loans as they can so they will have less stress about paying so much money per semester. They recommend the smaller meal plans as well for those entering colleges for the purpose of saving money. They have this information posted on the University of Wisconsin websites.

“I am really excited for a new start in a new school. I know that I will have a lot of fun,” says Russell. “With that being said, I know that when the time comes closer, I’m going to feel the same way I did when I started high school. I will probably be nervous as well as excited but I know that’s all part of the experience.”

“I kind of feel nervous for the new start in a new school,” says Steffen. “I really don’t know what to expect.”

The first year can be stressful, not knowing what college is like, however they haven’t experienced college so they are going to go through it just how they should.
