Students Pick Classes for the 2017-2018 School Year

Creative writing, one of the many classes students are able to take, takes place in this room.

According to North Campus counselor Katie Mitich’s email, online registration for current students at Arrowhead High School for the 2017-2018 school year begins at 5:00 p.m. on February 3rd and closes at 5:00 p.m. on February 10th.

For incoming freshman, online registration begins at 5:00 p.m. on February 13th and lasts until 5:00 p.m. on February 15th. Summer school online registration begins at 5:00 p.m. on February 6th and lasts until 5:00 p.m. on February 15th.

According to Mitich, presentations about next year’s class options in  English classes will begin  on January 30th.

“It is very important for students to be aware of all the different class choices. Arrowhead has so much to offer that many students may not even know that the perfect class for them is out there. Students should start with fulfilling any requirements that they need to graduate. Students should choose courses within these areas that interest them and seem challenging. This is why it is so important to read the course descriptions in the course selection guide. Beyond the required courses, there are so many options for electives; if you are interested in something, there is probably an Arrowhead Class that relates. Overall, students should take the time to look at the course guide and talk to teachers about potential classes,” says English 10 teacher, Rayen Elmergreen.

A few classes that are available to sophomores and juniors are classes such as Marketing and Business, AP US History, and Honors Chemistry. In the summer, students are able to take gym classes such as performance gym or adventure gym.

Students such as sophomore Taylor Tomich and freshman Ellie Schauble have already started preparing for the next school year by looking at all of their options on the 2017-2018 Course Guide. Students can access the Course Guide through the Arrowhead website or by clicking here.

“I feel that there is a wide range of classes for Social Studies and English. I want to take all of those options, but for Science and Mathematics I don’t think there are as many options for me. Other than that, I think that Arrowhead offers a good, wide range of classes,” says Tomich.

According to Schauble, the presentations about some of the classes for next year are very helpful.

“The presentations some teachers give us about classes help me make my decision because they explain what each class is and it helps me see which ones I have interest in,” says Schauble.

According to Tomich and Schauble, the biggest struggle most students encounter when deciding classes is deciding which class will help them succeed the most.

Schauble says there are a lot of fun options for her sophomore year such as South Select and Chemistry and she is having trouble deciding which one she will enjoy the most.

“The biggest struggle I encounter when picking classes is that there are many different classes I want to take and not enough hours in the day. I have so many interests and I don’t know for sure what I will like until I take the class,” says Tomich.
