Arrowhead Boys Varsity Volleyball Team Loses at State
The Arrowhead’s boys varsity volleyball team took on Wauwatosa East last Friday, November 11th at Wisconsin Lutheran College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The boys team only played four sets. The game could have gone up to five matches. The first team to win three matches is the winner of the game.
The AHS boys varsity volleyball team lost the first match with a score of 21-25; they won the second with a score of 25-23; and then they lost the next with a score of 25-23; they lost the final match, losing the state title, with a score of 25-22.
Chris Krier, junior at Arrowhead who attended the boys varsity volleyball team State game says, “The game was very exhilarating. It was funny because the other team chanted things such as ‘overrated’ to one of our players who is going D1.”
Krier says, “It was very distracting too because they would chant while our team was serving, and we didn’t do that to them, so it was very annoying.”
Krier says he has not attended any other volleyball game except for this one, and he says he “hopes to attend more of the matches in the future.”
Zach Nielsen, a senior at Arrowhead who plays on the boys varsity volleyball team says, “It is over and done. We lost, and there is nothing else to it. It is sad to the seniors because it was our last high school match. But, I look forward to playing volleyball in college.”
Nielsen says, “It was a fun year and I look forward to going back and seeing the juniors play next year along with my brother.”
He says that he hopes “the majority of the team will play club this year so that they will become better and hopefully be able to carry on the state run.”
Keenan Cuculi, a junior at Arrowhead who attended the boys varsity volleyball team’s state game says, “I was super hyped at the game. It was interesting because I don’t attend many of the volleyball games, but seeing a lot of the students come together to support the team was amazing. Arrowhead has such amazing school spirit and I love being apart of this school.”
Cuculi says he “hopes to attend the volleyball games next year because his friend Devin will play a lot more.”
Ivan Kyle, a senior at Arrowhead says, “Zach Nielsen has a killer serve.”
Kyle says, “It was a tough loss for the boys. It was hard fought, but we left it all on the court.” He also says, “Wauwatosa East also had a huge student section compared to us, so that helped contribute to their win. I just think the other team had more adrenaline and wanted the win more than we did.”
Kyle says, “Comparing this game to the girl’s volleyball games, the boy’s games are way better. I’m happy I went, because it was a good experience to everyone who came.”
Kyle ends by saying, “Well, good thing they didn’t play Marquette, they would’ve gotten their [butts] kicked.”
