The Arrowhead High School Literary Magazine: Win Money, Get Published.
Arrowhead students can submit to the Literary Magazine, run by students at Arrowhead. The Literary Magazine offers money, certificates, t-shirts, and other prizes for quarterly winners. To submit to the Literary Magazine, one must have an original piece of work (art, poem, short stories, etc.), and email it to [email protected].
According to the school website, if selected for publication or for an award, students can add these accolades to a resume, or college applications to help stand out from other applicants.
Elizabeth Jorgensen, an AHS English teacher and the literary magazine advisor said, “Each year, we publish about 100 print copies of the literary magazine. You can find these in the library or at the front office. You can also find the electronic version online here.”
Jorgensen said the literary magazine will be published sometime after spring break.
Jorgensen says, “This is a great way for students to share writing. If you have a poem, an essay, a short story, or anything else creative, consider sending it to the literary magazine. We publish anything creative. You can find previous literary magazines uploaded on Arrowhead’s webpage. Check this out if you’re looking for examples of what we’ve published in the past.”
The Literary Magazine has been under the leadership of Jorgensen since 2006.
She says, “I have been the AHS Literary Magazine adviser for 10 years. I appreciate all the talent we have at Arrowhead. Lots of amazing students have written amazing things for the literary magazine. But it’s not just written work. I’ve also seen great photography and artwork too.”
Brooke Birkland, an editor for the Literary Magazine says, “I think people should submit to the Literary Magazine, so we can show the creative side of Arrowhead.” Winners were chosen on November 1st, first place went to Taylor Miekle, A senior at Arrowhead, and second place went to Brian Griesmaier, another senior at Arrowhead.
