Arrowhead Families Celebrate Halloween

The North Campus Library decorated for Halloween

From decorating the North Campus school store, to decorating the front yards at their homes, the students and faculty of Arrowhead are doing it all. This year, Halloween occurs on Monday, October 31st– and Trick or Treating occurs on the same night also.

Jenna Nielsen, a senior at Arrowhead, is a member of DECA. Nielsen also works at the the school store, Hawksnest. She says that she, along with the other members of DECA, “Decorate the school store to please the eyes of our customers during Halloween. We have orange and black streamers hanging from our counters and ceiling, scary masks on our mannequins along with broken body parts scattered in our candy jars. We try to have Halloween specials and promote our products with the Halloween spirit. This not only benefits our customers, but [it also] increases our profit.”

During the Halloween season, not only is the school store decorated for the occasion, but they also have special deals going on in the store.

Nielsen says, “We sell our special pumpkin spice froyo which is only offered in October. We have deals on Carmel Apple suckers, and sell our bag of Frooties in a glove in honor of Halloween. We also sell candy like Tootsie Rolls and Smarties to get students excited about trick or treating coming up.” This year, Trick or Treating is on Monday, October 31st.

Nielsen says she enjoys Halloween immensely. She says, “[My] favorite part of Halloween is all the spirit and fun that comes with it. I love dressing up as something different each year and seeing everyone else’s costumes. I love standing by the door and giving kids candy. It gives me a glimpse back into the past of when I was their age. I love all the decorations presented outside and inside of people’s homes. I love the adrenaline that comes from going through spooky haunted houses.”

Molly Melnick, a senior at Arrowhead High School, says she decorates her house and hosts holiday festivities every year. “For Halloween, I have a party where we all go to a haunted house together and then come back to my home to have Halloween themed food, drinks, and take pictures…if someone has a dress-up party this year, I will be there. My boyfriend and I would go as Boo and Sully from Monster’s Inc.”

One of Melnick’s favorite things about Halloween is decorating her house. “Each year, we bring out a whole bunch of orange, purple, and green lights and creepy props and decorate the whole basement from top to bottom. We add new stuff each year for the Halloween party.”

She says her favorite Halloween candy is Kit Kats, and her favorite dessert treat is “dirt cake with gummy worms in [because] it looks weird but tastes awesome.” She also says that her favorite part of the Halloween season is “all the creative costumes. I always put a lot of time into picking mine and love seeing the funny ones people have.”

She says, “I wish I could still go trick or treating, but I stopped at age 11 or 12.”
