Baseball Buzz Begins at Arrowhead

According to fox6now.com, Monday, April 4th was opening day for the Brewers baseball team. They played against the San Francisco Giants at 1:10pm. The game took place at Miller Park. The Brewers beat the Giants, 4-3.

According to the Milwaukee Brewers official website, on opening day, the first pitch was thrown out by James Beckum. Beckum is a former pro baseball player and the founder of the Beckum-Stapleton Little League. This league is the longest existing african american little league in the country.

According to foxsports.com, this was the first of six consecutive games being held at Miller Park. The Brewers are scheduled to host the Houston Astros next weekend. The Brewers are scheduled to have two ten-game homestands. The Brewers will be at home for games on both Memorial Day (May 30 against the St. Louis Cardinals) and Labor Day (Sept. 5 vs the Chicago Cubs). On the Fourth of July, the Brewers will be in Washington, D.C., to face the Nationals.

Elise Baumgartner, a senior at Arrowhead said, “I’m not a huge fan of baseball, but I’ve been hearing everyone talking about it lately. I usually go to a couple games a year with friends and it’s fun to socialize and watch the game every once in awhile.”

According to the official Milwaukee Brewers website, starting off this season there are three top batters. Gennett is number one, with an average of .4. Braun comes in second, with an average of .333. Lucroy comes in a close third, with a batting average of .273.

Arrowhead Baseball kicked off last week as well. According to the Arrowhead website, they had their first game at Watertown High School on Tuesday, April 5th at 4:30pm.

According to MaxPreps, the Arrowhead varsity baseball team is set up to have a very good season. Four of the team’s starters are going on to play Division 1 college baseball. This includes senior Dom Clementi who will be attending Michigan, senior Nate Brown who is going to Florida, senior Ryan Schmitt who will be at Illinois and sophomore Jeff Holtz who has committed to Indiana.

Senior Mia Rocco, whose brother plays baseball at Arrowhead said, “My brother is so excited for the season to start. He says that the team wants to win state this year, and he thinks that they can.”

According to JSOnline, Arrowhead joined the Little Ten Conference last year, and they are finally able to play against more competitive schools such as Sun Prairie and Kenosha.

The team’s schedule is posted on the Arrowhead website, arrowheadschools.org. It says that their next game is Monday, April 11th at home against Oshkosh North, and then another home game against Watertown on Wednesday April 13th. All games are at the main baseball field, just next to the football stadium.
