Straight Outta Compton Movie Review
On August 14th, 2015, a movie titled Straight Outta Compton was released. The movie tells the story of the renown rap group NWA and their years of fame. As as September 16, 2015, Straight Outta Compton has made box office profits of about $156,671,465.
Noah Richart, former student of Arrowhead High School, says, “It was definitely worth the money to go. I went last Tuesday and would definitely go to see it again the theatres if I have the time.”
The main characters in this movie are the members of NWA: Ice Cube, Eazy E, Dr. Dre, Mc Ren, and Arabian Prince. Another main character in the movie includes their manager Jerry Heller.
Richart says, “Although the majority of the actors in the movie weren’t the original members of the group – they portrayed their characters extremely well. I really loved how they depicted how major of a character Ice Cube truly was because he wrote a lot of the lyrics for the group and they definitely showed that.”
Kelli Dittmann, a senior at Arrowhead High School, says, “Eazy E is my favorite member. I love his lyrics and voice. It was awesome how prevalent he was in the movie. He had a lot of screen time.”
The setting of the movie took place in the member’s hometown, Compton, California. Compton is a very dangerous area as it is known for crime, police brutality, and poverty.
Richart says, “I love how the movie showed the crime and violence happening around the city in that time. It also shows the way the police treated people of color during that time. Overall, it was more than a movie about a rap group – it was real.”
